If you want to see one of the most curious lighthouses in the world, you have to hurry because the sand is engulfing it and it is likely to end up buried among the dunes that surround it. This hard-to-pronounce lighthouse is located in the northernmost point of Denmark, in the Jutland peninsula, between the cities of Lokken and Lonstrup. The countdown to its imminent disappearance has already begun. The result? A new place of worship for those tourists who wish to be involved in an adventure full of mystery. It is also a good destination for any photography lover.
The turbulent waters caused the shipwreck of vessels navigating this North Sea route. This was the reason why the so-called Vippefyrf, one of the first Danish lighthouses, was built, placing it at the entrance of the North Sea to the Baltic Sea.
Built in 1889, 60 meters above sea level and with a total height of 83 meters, at that time its light could be seen from a distance of 40 kilometers, but little by little the storms were undermining its light until it became useless for the function for which it had been built. It was in operation for 68 years.
Later, it became a museum that functioned as such until 2002. In addition to a museum, it had a cafeteria and was considered a tourist attraction.
Although the buildings attached to the lighthouse have disappeared, hidden by the sand, you can still see the lighthouse emerging from the dunes.

You are still in time to visit the place where the Danish writer Isak Dinesen was inspired to write her famous novel “Out of Africa.” Of course, you have to hurry if we want to see it because this emblematic lighthouse can disappear in any sandstorm.
Where to Stay: Skagen
If you want to take a walk around the area, you can stay in the small city of Skagen, where its orange-roofed houses and yellow facades break the gray color of a place where the clouds barely let the sun appear. You can also visit the pictorial museum and its peculiar church half-buried in the sand. This tourist town was the headquarters of the Pictorial School that developed at the end of the 19th century in Denmark. Painters, writers, and composers gathered in Skagen, staying at the historic Brondum hotel and turning the place into a center of active cultural life.
If you were looking for a mysterious lighthouse, you will find it in Denmark.
